How does YOUR garden grow?

I can tell you how mine does...in containers! Last year we planted a few things in containers and it worked out really well. My desire is to have an above ground garden bed, but that will have to happen in a couple of years. Until then we are going to use containers and they are just fine! We even used some old laundry detergent buckets (cleaned out well first of course). This year we have the following things growing: Strawberries, grapes, 2 kinds of basil, parsley, sage, rosemary, zucchini, peas, kale, swiss chard/salad greens, 2 kinds of tomatoes, acorn squash, winter squash, pumpkins, mexican cucumber, portofino summer squash, bell peppers, and jalapeno peppers. I can't wait till they all start to grow more and I'll post updates with pictures.

The best part about gardening (other than that it's free vegetables and such!) is having special time to spend with Jakey and Levi outside planting and watering. Jakey is such a big boy (had his 18 month visit yesterday....all went very well) and he loves water (wa!) and loves to help me water the plants. He carries around a bucket, cup, or anything else he can find that will hold water and comes up to me and says "wa!", so I fill it up and then he waters something with it. Sometimes he just waters himself (as you can see in the picture from the slight water spot on his shirt). He is so fun to be with, I am enjoying every moment. He makes me laugh so much when he does that squinchy nose face thing and he just is a happy and sweet child. 99% of the time. The other 1% is pretty normal I think!

  1. I'm lovin' the garden! You have so many different things planted. I got your message, sorry I haven't called back. My sister's graduation was the weekend before last and we were at another wedding this last weekend. I was going to see if maybe sometime this week you'd want to meet for coffee? Let me know! Love ya!
