Incredible deals!

I just got back from the grocery store and found some incredible deals. I shop at the local discount grocery store (the ones you have to bag your own groceries, and they look kinda run down...but the food is all the same and I'm not there for a fashion show or to make friends...I'm there to save $$) Sorry, I had to rant about that for a moment because I know people who won't shop at places like Food 4 Less or Winco because of superficial reasons like that. Their loss!!!! Anyhow...I pack my husband's lunch every day and he usually takes a sandwich. Last fall I started making our bread (thanks to my sweet sister-in-law who let me borrow her breadmaker) and we have bought 1 loaf of bread since the beginning of November 08. I make all different kinds and use whole wheat flour and sprinkle some flax seeds in it and it's totally yummy and costs a fraction of the price for the bread you buy in the store with all the preservatives and yucky stuff. Today while I was at the store I found the Foster Farms tubs of lunch meat with no hormones or steroids (I'm not going to pay for my family to take steroids or added hormones, I have enough hormones to go around for all of us!) for $1.98 a tub, AND on the tub was a 55 cent off coupon! That makes the turkey breast $1.43 a tub! They are 9 oz tubs and they don't expire till early April. They can also be frozen...I have frozen turkey before and it thaws wonderfully! What a deal!!! I bought 10 of them!! Anyhow...have you seen any amazing deals at your grocery store lately???? Leave a comment and let me know :)

Have a good day!!

A frugal chill pill

I have found that the best way to soothe an tired, grumpy pants, whiney, little sweet boy is to give him a bath!!! He loves it and we love the calmness that comes over him! Works for adults too!!!

Biscuits

I made biscuits for the first time yesterday. I know what you're thinking...southern barbie just made biscuits for the first time???? Well...yes...it's true. Made from scratch that is. Of course I've made the pillsbury biscuits and all the other kinds that come in the nifty little tube that makes the cool sound when you twist it. But these were made by my own two hands and let me tell you, they were GOOD! J-train said he thought he'd of had biscuits a long time ago since he married a southerner and that started a whole other conversations about stereotypes and how southerners don't just sit around all day eating biscuits and gravy and drinking sweet tea. Well, I guess the sweet tea thing is true...but the only time I ate biscuits was at Cracker Barrel. Yummy!!!!

Anyhow, biscuits are a labor of love. It takes a long time to cut in the butter with a pastry blender and my hands actually started hurting...but it was worth the pain. Every single flakey buttery bite.

So much for my diet. HELLO BISCUITS!!!

In fact, I made some more tonight. Jakey likes them too. They really aren't that bad for you, they're mostly flour, no oil or shortening or anything, but they do have a bit of butter and a tablespoon of sugar for the whole batch...that's not that bad....right???? Humm...oh well...they are amazing!

Have a great Friday!!!

The Studying Blues

Sing this to the tune of your favorite blues song:

I woke up this morning.
No smile on my face.
Got laundry to do, got to clean up this place.
Got to do my studying...
or another extension I'll have to buy.
Trying to get studying done with a toddler...
oh my, oh my.
He keeps me busy,
and makes me smile.
He's my sweet little boy...
he want's to play for a while.
Got to do my studying,
Got to do it now.
One month's gone by since I bought an extension. Wow!!!!!!!

So, if I don't finish 2.5 classes by April 5th, I'll have to pay for another extension. BLAST!
Got to go, I have studying to do!

Putting the "oh!" back in sewing :)

Ok, so prude's beware...I'm putting the "oh!" back in sewing! I think people have the idea that women who like to sew are old, boring, homely, and just kinda dull. Maybe they don't...but sewing just isn't promoted as something that really hot people do, or even kinda hot people for that matter. I won't mention which (if any) category I'm in, BUT dang it's hot in here! I am posting my first picture on my blog and it's of a picture of J-train's valentine's present. Now...I am a stay at home mom, studying to be an MT through an amazing online school, and my sweet hard-working hubby only makes $12 an hour. So...we are ON A STRICT BUDGET. What did we do for valentine's day??? Well...thankfully....I had a return to make at Walmart and we used that money to buy some cheap mexican food and a bottle of champagne on sale and we are going to watch a movie and hang out! Sounds good to me! We exchanged cards (dollar store...holla!) and agreed not to do presents, but I had the best frugal idea ever about 2 months ago...so I saved and bought J-train some hot white boxer briefs from Ross (love it!) and used the embroidery function on my sewing maching to write "Hot Stuff" in bright red on the backside! See the attached picture. There you go....Valentine's day for way under $20. That's what I call a deal. Happy Valentines Day!!!

In Stitches...

Well...today my sweet baby boy had his first fall...and got stitches. My sister-in-law was watching him this morning while I went to stand in line with 100's of other people for free dental care (nothing's really free, is it??) and I got a call about an hour later saying Jakey had fallen down the stairs. My understanding is that the baby gate hadn't been put up yet. Anyhow, it was a horrible experience for Jakey and for me. I had to hold him down while the doctor put in three stitches. I have never seen stitches being put in before and they asked me how he does with bandaids and I said we don't know...he's never had to have a bandaid before. So we made it almost 15 months without major incident and here we are today. He is acting fine now, but he doesn't want me to change the bandage, that's for sure. It's right above his eye, through his eyebrow. I have the same scar in my eyebrow of the same eye. Isn't that wierd???? Mine's from going down a slide when I was 2 and landing on a little boy playing with a metal truck at the bottom. I am thankful that it wasn't another inch lower, it would have been his actual eye. I am thankful he didn't get a concussion. I am thankful he is ok and he is a big brave boy. I am torn between frustration about the baby gate and feeling bad for my sister-in-law. I know it was an accident and she feels horrible. I just don't ever want him to experience anything painful like this again. Isn't that what all moms want??? I love my sweet little boy. There is nothing quite like the fear of something being wrong with your child. I am a little hot-tempered and prone to screaming, etc. when I'm angry or mad, but this time I was silent. I drove to their house in silence and walked in, in silence. I just wanted to hold my baby boy. Then when I talked to her, I didn't raise my voice or talk ugly, I just talked quietly and softly and said as little as possible...mostly to prevent from crying like a baby. I'm a wimp when it comes to Jakey. He is ok, and that is ALL that matters. Thanks be to God.
